By: Habiba Cooper Diallo I was recently in Toronto at the Planet Africa Awards gala to receive an award for the work I have been doing on fistula and in the African community for the past few years. The event was really exciting. I was honoured to be in the presence of so many notable fellow award recipients who are making tremendous contributions to service industries, medicine, culture, and more. I was graced by the presence of Beverley Salmon, Toronto's first female Black councillor, Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Fergie Jenkins, the first Canadian to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and so many other amazing personalities. This recognition has reaffirmed my Africaness, of which I am so proud; most importantly, it has recharged my spirit, thus giving me the energy to continue this fight against obstetric fistula. Thank you Planet Africa!
